What I like about start-ups
I have indirectly overseen the launch of many start ups and admire the creativity of those involved
I have been involved in some way with the launches of many start-up companies. I have always found it a very interesting world, because the people that do it are almost always very creative and entrepreneurial - and aren’t afraid of doing things in an unconventional way.
I enjoy watching companies grow over time. I oversaw the launch of one (now very successful) company based in Oxford, whose first product was made in the spare bedroom of its founder. He now has a knighthood. His wife is very financially astute and wouldn’t let him buy the parts for the next product until they had sold the first and got the cash in.
Having spent nearly sixty years helping other people create and grow their businesses, I decided it was time that I had one of my own. That’s why I started JJ Books. I enjoy writing and had some already existing material, so I thought it would be fun to have my own publishing business and publish books in the way I wanted. I have also long believed in the liberating power of the internet, so this project combines several of my interests – and unsurprisingly I have enjoyed it as much as I expected.
